President Prabowo Subianto highlighted the frequent disputes between Muslim countries at a special session on Palestine and Lebanon at the 11th Developing Eight (D-8) Summit at the New Administrative Capital Presidential Palace, Cairo, Egypt, Thursday (12/19/2024), local time.
However, when President Prabowo Subianto had just started his speech, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan suddenly walked out of the D-8 Summit forum. Prabowo spoke about the invitation of friendly countries members of the D8 Summit to side with Palestine.
Not only walking out, Erdogan even deliberately nudged and pushed Prabowo's chair while giving his speech. Erdogan's walk out attitude was apparently followed by several delegates from other countries who also left the forum.
Erdogan looked emotional towards Prabowo, because Prabowo Subianto's speech touched on the issue of defending Palestine and the unity of Islamic countries as well as an appeal not to trust the West.
Several sources on social media stated that Erdogan deliberately nudged Prabowo's chair when leaving the forum, which could be interpreted as a sign of disagreement or political demonstration
However, Prabowo was undeterred and continued to speak loudly discussing the conflicts in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria. In the speech, Prabowo immediately emphasized his support for Palestine.
Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary Mayor Teddy, who was sitting right behind Prabowo, looked up in surprise when Erdogan left the D8 Summit forum. His expression looked surprised and a little annoyed, as we know Mayor Teddy is very protective of Prabowo.
According to Prabowo, this is what makes Muslim countries currently not respected, making it difficult to influence countries in conflict such as Palestine.
"The reality of this situation is that the Muslim world is not respected, the Muslim population in the world reaches 2 billion people, which is 25% of the world's population," he said.
Muslim countries also have great resources. However, according to Prabowo, if they are not united and often disagree, then Muslim countries cannot provide assistance to Palestine.
"We often fight among ourselves, and when our brothers are destroyed, we can only (give) a declaration of support and then send humanitarian aid," Prabowo said.
According to Prabowo, Devide et Impera or divide and rule politics is the law of imperialism that has been in effect for thousands of years, which has divided Muslim countries.
"Every day we see Sudan, Muslim leaders fighting Muslim leaders, we see Libya, Muslim leaders fighting Muslim leaders. We see Yemen, Muslim leaders fighting Muslim leaders. When will this end? When can we help Palestine if we have to fight among ourselves," he said.
He also revealed that he often attended various international meetings. However, all that can be done so far is to give a declaration of support.
"Indonesia has tried to do the best with what we can do. But I call for unity. I call for cooperation. I call for Muslim countries to realize that we are not respected, our voices are not heard," Prabowo said.
The D8 Summit, in addition to being attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was also attended by Egyptian President Abdul Fattah El-Sisi, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and other heads of state.
