JAKARTA, Pertamina Group continues to make various efforts towards energy transition and achieve Indonesia's Net Zero Emission (NZE) target by 2060. Strategic steps have also been taken by Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) together with its subsidiary, PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) by signing the Amendment to the Carbon Credit Trading Agreement (PPKK).

The signing was carried out by Pertamina NRE CEO, John Anis, PGE President Director, Julfi Hadi. Also present and witnessing the event was the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Simon Aloysius Mantiri. This collaboration continues Pertamina NRE's contribution in managing carbon credits originating from the Lahendong Unit 5&6 geothermal project located in the Tompaso Geothermal Field, North Sulawesi Province, Indonesia.

Since the launch of IDXCarbon on September 26, 2023 until now, Pertamina NRE has recorded sales of 862 thousand tons of CO2e carbon credits from Lahendong Unit 5 & 6 for volumes 1 and 2. These sales reached 96% of the carbon credit market share in Indonesia and thus strengthened Pertamina NRE's role as a carbon market aggregator in the Pertamina Group. Through this agreement, Pertamina NRE sold 390 thousand tons of CO2e carbon credits for volume 3. In his remarks, Simon expressed his appreciation for the innovations made to support Net Zero Emission.

"Indonesia has an extraordinary gift from God in the form of abundant green energy potential, ranging from year-round sunlight, vast forests, to geothermal and hydrogen. I really appreciate this hard work which will certainly be very useful in supporting the government to continue to push our energy sector forward to the green energy transition. And of course one day we will be self-sufficient in energy," said Simon.

"Since being appointed as Pertamina's carbon aggregator in 2022, Pertamina NRE has been actively leading the carbon market by controlling 95% of the market share on IDXCarbon and selling almost all available volumes," said John Anis.

John also said that Pertamina NRE is not only focused on geothermal, but will also expand its carbon business portfolio through biogas projects, gas to power, and nature-based solutions in the future.

"Not only for business activities, even for daily activities, such as events or seminars, we also offset carbon emissions so that they can be called carbon neutral events," added John.

Meanwhile, PGE President Director Julfi Hadi in his remarks said that PGE has long experience since 2011 for carbon credits, and collaborates with Pertamina NRE to optimize the potential of carbon credits as a form of new revenue stream.

"The signing of the amendment to the agreement today is an important step to accelerate the commercialization of our geothermal projects, making them more strategic and attractive to investors," said Julfi Hadi.

On another occasion, Vice President of Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero), Fadjar Djoko Santoso revealed that Pertamina Group is active in carbon credit trading as its commitment to becoming a sustainable company. This role will continue to be strengthened, not only with the synergy of Pertamina Group but with various institutions and academics, to achieve the Net Zero Emission target of Indonesia.

"Pertamina also encourages all subsidiaries to collaborate, both within Pertamina Group and with various parties in order to support the Net Zero Emission target of 2060," concluded Fadjar.
